Re:
America First
Introduction
All
across the United States we have seen a vast change in the economy with loss of
jobs countries overseas, a crippling infrastructure, and too many regulations
on businesses to grow. We have been pushed around too much by other countries
taking advantage of our aid. The United States no longer should be the world’s
police. It is the time Mr. President to put our foot down and take care of our
country first before others. Isolationism of course is not something that
should happen as that would not benefit us but rather we need to put an
emphasis on our countries needs instead of trying to take care of everyone
else. A person can only do so much for others if they don’t take care of
themselves. What I suggest we do is focus on this country’s infrastructure,
deregulating businesses so they have a chance to grow, and incentivize the
businesses that keep jobs within the United States. America will once again be
put first, something that hasn’t been for many years.
Evidence
Infrastructure
is an important factor and the US’ has not been taken care of for some time
now. In a report done by the American Society of Engineers, they scored the US’
infrastructure with a letter grade of D+. We are still a top infrastructure in
the world but other countries have moved ahead of us. Our system is becoming
too old and vulnerable. Highways, public transportation, bridges, and power
lines are breaking down and need to be modernized to fit with our country
today. Business has seen too many regulations especially from the former
administration. This has caused them to not grow as much as they could.
De-regulating them will help our economy go to even higher levels than we ever
have been as well as create jobs for these companies. These businesses have
outsourced to other countries which have resulted in negative effects for the
workers who lost their jobs. Reductions in regulations will help bring jobs
back from foreign countries. We have lost to many jobs and have lost what made
America so great. There should be an emphasis on manufacturing like there once
was in this country. This will ensure bring jobs back to those who had lost
them due to outsourcing.
Implementation
Our
country has fallen behind in terms of our growth and have spent too much money
and resources on other countries than our own. Regulations need to be reformed
so that they are pro-business. Incentivizing companies to try and entice them
to return here is important. One way to do this is the corporate tax and
decreasing it from what it is to 15%. This is within your tax plan but it is
important for bringing jobs back. The country needs to go back in the right
direction with a focus on reviving our once fantastic infrastructure so that it
can compete in this day in age. The United States needs to have working roads,
bridges, airports, public transportation system, etc. We have already seen
under the tax plan, companies giving out bonuses for their employees. If we
show that we will help companies grow they will be more likely to stay which in
turn will make the economy so much stronger. Infrastructure will take time to
rebuild but for long-term success this is necessary. Our economy with these
changes will grow and prosper. We will finally put our efforts back into this
country and bring people to believe in a country that they can proudly stand
behind. I am not saying we should outright disappear from the world but instead
take care of ourselves before we go out and try to fix everything in other
countries. We haven’t fix our own problems which should be our priority. It is
not wrong to want to take care of ourselves. Poverty, hunger, and other
problems are right in our backyard and we should work to fix that. America will
once again become a powerful country that will not be taken advantage of by others.
Mr. President, the time is now to put America first and not ignored.
I think your point about comparing our infrastructure to other countries is good. It shows that while the United States is good, it could be better. I think there is a good argument behind putting emphasis on outsourcing as a source of losing jobs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the point you made about only being able to do so much for others if we don't take care of ourselves first. The United States tends to get involved in matters outside of our borders before addressing those within them. Our failing infrastructure is leaving us vulnerable and rebuilding our economy and lowering the unemployment rates should be a top priority. The aid we give to other countries has not been reciprocated and our nation needs to focus its priorities on ensuring our safety and well-being before doing the same for others.
ReplyDeleteI find that your memo has a lot in common with Donald Trump's own views from the campaign trail. Though I can't remember the exact moment (I think it was during one of the debates), I distinctly recall President Trump pointing out that our roads, airports, and other infrastructure were in a third-world condition, to paraphrase it. Beyond that, he also put a lot of emphasis on losing jobs to outsourcing, lowering the corporate tax, and returning some of the secondary/manufacturing sector to America. I am on board with a lot of what you propose.
